About the Course

Why do you need this qualification?

This course meets the HSE requirements of a  First Aid at Work Qualification, and equips you to deliver life saving first aid in a range of scenarios and workplaces.

How long does it last?

A First Aid at Work qualification is valid for 3 years. If you would like to renew your FAW qualification you must be assessed against all learning outcomes and assessment criteria in the unit. The delivery time can be adjusted based on current HSE guidance for requalification (2 days). It is considered appropriate to reduce the time by 6 hours for re-qualification to 12 hours.

Course Prerequisites

Every candidate attending a First Aid at Work course must be 16 years of age at the time of taking the assessment. No prior first aid knowledge or experience is required

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider

  • How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally

  • How to manage a casualty who is in shock

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for the FAW is assessed through demonstration of competence throughout the course itself. The assessment should determine the learners ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when an emergency occurs at work and how to deal with the casualty. All assessment criteria in all units must be met.
